heirlooms iii is a generative piece, which means that every performance is slightly different. The coded computer patch (built in Max) takes a seed audio file and stretches and transposes sixteen iterations of the music. The randomness embedded in the project create different forms, lengths, and iterations. The piece is for four-channel electronics, projections, and optional improvised instrument(s). The performance can be between 15-30 minutes or as an ongoing installation.
During the piece, a live butterfly pinning is displayed to the audience via projector. The projected space should be decorated with heirlooms, photos, and/or trinkets.
The music samples my grandmother’s autoharp and fragments of a hymn tune on steel-string guitar.
